I am a strong believer in trying all types of cuisines. Especially, ones that you don’t have access to on a daily basis. About a month ago we arrived at this restaurant in a weird and completely spontaneous way. My husband and I were in the area visiting some family and decided that it would be nice to try something different. Versailles Cuban Restaurant has a few locations but we chose to visit their Manhattan venue. The drive to the restaurant was very pleasant with the beach in plain view. Imagine a gorgeous coast line and a cool breeze softly brushing your face as you drive along to your destination.
As we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted and ushered to our table. I found that the menu’s were quite extensive and detailed. I prefer there to be a more limited selection because I get confused on what to order. Nevertheless, I settled on their famous oxtail while my husband chose the chicken in garlic sauce. We also ordered their beef and chicken empandas for appetizer because by that point we were starving. I decided to also order a glass of their sangria which tasted fabulous. It wasn’t strong but incredibly flavorful.
Fortunately, their service was excellent so we received our empandas quickly. My favorite and recommendation is definitely the chicken. The spices seemed like they had been marinated with the meat for several hours because each mouthful was a burst of flavor. They portions were large so once we finished them we were already feeling full.
A few minutes later our entrees arrived and we dug in. Let me say for the record you have to try their oxtail. I know its a strange dish and some might even think it “sounds gross” but it is amazing. The best way to describe it is a bone in cut of meat. The meat texture is tender and soft. It literally falls of the bone. The other dish we ordered was the roasted chicken in garlic sauce.
Now, this might sound very plain but it was not. The chicken was also very tender and the skin had a a crispy tang to it. The garlic sauce was completely surround the chicken. Every time we had a piece of chicken we would dip it directly into it.
Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We were so happy that we thought lets try the dessert as well. So we ordered a slice of their Tres Leche cake. It was a good cake. Most people would enjoy it completely but I am very selective on tres leche. I enjoy cakes that are drenched in sauce. This cake was not soaked in juices so perhaps I am biased to it.
Overall, our experience was above average and we will be revisiting them very soon. Ambiance was comfortable. Food and service was excellent as well. You cant go wrong when you have all three! Happy eating!
