Wineries = snobby and expensive, at least that was my general impression before stepping foot into The Winery at Main Street. Located on historic Main Street in Yorba Linda, this wine lounge/store provides an intimate setting for enjoying a lovely glass of vino with that special someone or treasured friends. Main Street is unfortunately, not the most lively of places, many businesses on this strip close early or are just closed period, but The Winery is the bright light that shines on this un-bustling, un-busy street. This fact may actually work to The Winery’s advantage as “old towns” such as San Diego, Fullerton and Pasadena boast plenty of business to their bookstores, restaurants and bars, but they also boast high prices. Not so at The Winery, with bottle prices from $15-30 you won’t break the bank.
ahh wine...well this is after we finished ALL of it!
The ambiance within this haven features large, oak wine barrels that serve as tables, an impressive wooden wine display along the back wall and a family-owned staff that make you feel at home the moment you arrive. Justin, the chief wine maker, is a jovial young man that is more than happy to inform you about any of their wine selections and pours complimentary wine samples generously.
I came with my fellow oenophiles, my husband and sister, on a quiet Sunday afternoon. We sat down on plush, leathery chairs that looked out onto Main Street through large picture windows. We were treated to four samples of wine, each more blissful than the next. Justin started us with a mellow Chardonnay from New Zealand, buttery and not too overpowering in scent as many Chardonnays seem to be. Next was a sample of the Winery’s fruit wine creation called Vino Mojito – a perfect lazy-summer-day-on-the-porch libation consisting of mango and mint mixed with Chenin Blanc. Big Daddy Red was next, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Zinfandel, this concoction was amazingly smooth and drinkable – the definite winner among our group, we ended up purchasing 3 bottles of the stuff. We capped our tasting journey with an Amarosso, an Italian red with a lot of body and flavor.

Upon leaving, Justin gave us all big hugs, and we told him we’d be back…and we were, the very next weekend! And just like our first experience there, the second was equally delightful, the staff is phenomenally friendly, warm and knowledgeable about wine. I wish more un-snobby, affordable wineries like this existed because The Winery sets the standard on approachable wines for everyone.
